RAJOURI/Shopian, June 5: At least six persons sustained injuries after a Swift car reportedly lost control and skidded off the road near Dubjan in the Heerpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday.
According to officials, the accident took place in Dubjan under the jurisdiction of Heerpora Police Station when a Swift car bearing registration number JK11D-4114, travelling from Rajouri towards Shopian, veered off the road after the driver allegedly lost control over the vehicle. The incident triggered panic in the area as locals rushed to assist the injured passengers.
Police sources said the vehicle was being driven by Sunil Sharma, son of Ramesh Sharma. Besides the driver, five other occupants travelling in the vehicle also sustained injuries in the mishap.
The injured have been identified as Sunil Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, Plavi Chandan, Aarav Kumar, Prachi, and Dua Kumar. Soon after the accident, local residents, along with police personnel, launched a rescue operation and shifted all the injured to District Hospital Shopian for medical treatment.
Officials said the condition of the injured is being monitored, while police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Authorities have urged commuters travelling on hilly stretches, especially near Mughal Road and Dubjan, to exercise caution while driving.
