Employees Urged to Shift Accounts from JK Bank Over Arbitrary Deductions, Widespread Outrage Erupts

June 7, 2025 The Rajouri times — Anger and resentment are brewing among government employees in Chasana and across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir over what they call the “highhanded and exploitative behavior” of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (JK Bank). The outrage stems from repeated instances of *unauthorized double installment deductions* and the unjustified fixing of 3rd of every month as the EMI deduction date*, despite salaries being credited only around the 15th of each month.

The situation escalated after *teachers from Chasana held a strong protest* against these practices, calling them financially suffocating and unjust. Various employees’ unions across the region have also come forward, condemning JK Bank’s arbitrary actions in the strongest terms, calling it an “institutional exploitation of public servants.”

Sajad Bhat a government employee and social activist, also voiced his concern, saying:

“When the bank knows the salary is disbursed around the 15th, why are they deducting EMIs on the 3rd? Worse, some employees have suffered double deductions in a month, pushing families into financial distress. This is nothing short of loot under the garb of policy.”

Bhat urged all employees to *seriously consider shifting their salary accounts from JK Bank to other nationalized or private banks* that offer better transparency, accountability, and respect for the financial realities of salaried employees.

Employees say the unilateral fixing of the 3rd of every month for deductions — without considering the actual credit date of salaries has led to *penalty charges, overdraft situations, and mental trauma* for many.

Several unions have written to higher authorities demanding immediate intervention and a comprehensive audit of JK Bank’s loan recovery practices. They also demand a public apology from the bank and a rollback of such “draconian and unilateral” policies.

The issue is gaining traction, with many employees planning a *mass account migration movement* if no corrective measures are taken.
