The Rajouri Times/ A fresh wave of online speculation has surrounded Benjamin Netanyahu after a video showing the Israeli prime minister sitting in a café surfaced on social media while rumours about his alleged assassination were circulating.
The clip, reportedly recorded in a café in Tel Aviv, shows Netanyahu calmly addressing the rumours about his death. The video was shared through his official social media platforms in what appeared to be an attempt to dismiss the viral claims that he had been killed.
However, the footage quickly triggered another controversy, with some social media users suggesting the video might have been artificially generated. The speculation intensified after responses from Grok — the chatbot associated with X owned by Elon Musk — suggested that the clip appeared to be AI-generated.
Responding to user queries, Grok claimed the footage looked like a “deepfake,” arguing that there was no confirmed real-world event where the Israeli leader casually discussed sensitive matters in a public café while drinking coffee. The chatbot’s responses further fueled online debates about the authenticity of the clip.
Earlier, another video shared on Netanyahu’s social accounts had also sparked controversy after some users alleged visual irregularities, including claims that his hand appeared to have an extra finger. Those allegations were later dismissed by the Anadolu Agency, which described the claim as a false rumour circulating online.
The speculation gained momentum at a time when tensions in the region were already high following the reported strike in Tehran that reportedly led to the death of Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former supreme leader. In the aftermath, various unverified claims spread on social media suggesting Netanyahu had been targeted or killed.
Additional rumours also circulated alleging that Netanyahu’s brother Iddo Netanyahu and Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir had died in an airstrike. These reports were quickly proven false, with both individuals reported to be safe.
Recent updates from Netanyahu’s official accounts indicate that the 76-year-old Israeli leader remains in Israel, with posts continuing to emerge from Tel Aviv during the ongoing regional tensions. Analysts say the incident highlights how misinformation and AI-related speculation can quickly spread online during periods of geopolitical crisis.
