Rajouri, [18/11/2025] — Parents of students studying in various private schools across Rajouri have raised serious concerns regarding the sale of fast food items within school canteens. While schools strictly prohibit students from bringing fast food in their lunch boxes, many institutions are allegedly allowing their own canteens to sell items such as momos, aloo tikki, aloo samosa, and maggi—a contradiction that has alarmed parents and health-conscious groups.
Parents allege that these fast food items are not only unhealthy but are also being prepared in unhygienic conditions, leading to several children falling ill. They further claimed that the schools may be benefiting from the commissions earned through the sale of such items, raising questions about the priorities of school administrations.
“Our children are instructed not to bring any fast food from home, yet the school canteen openly sells the same items. This double standard is unacceptable, especially when the health of our kids is at stake,” said a group of concerned parents.
Health experts have repeatedly warned against the excessive consumption of processed and fried foods among school-going children, citing risks such as obesity, digestive problems, and lowered immunity. Parents insist that schools must promote healthy eating habits rather than contribute to unhealthy choices.
The parents have appealed to the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Rajouri and the Director School Education (DSE) to immediately intervene, investigate the matter thoroughly, and issue clear guidelines to ensure that only nutritious and hygienic food items are made available on school premises.
They emphasized that the well-being of students should be the top priority and that strict action must be taken against schools violating food safety norms.
For further information or statements, concerned parents and stakeholders urge education authorities to schedule a meeting at the earliest to address the issue.
