Rajouri, 19/11/2025 — A growing number of parents have raised serious concerns over what they describe as “unjustified loot” by several private schools of Rajouri that charge heavy late fees for tuition payments not made before the 10th of every month. Parents allege that these schools impose late fees ranging from ₹300 to ₹500, even if the monthly fee is delayed by just a few days.
According to the parents, such steep penalties are putting unnecessary financial pressure on families, especially at a time when household budgets are already strained. Many parents argue that while timely payment of fees is understandable, the excessive late fines are arbitrary, exploitative, and lack any regulatory justification.
Parents have urged the Education Minister , the Fee Fixation Committee. Director school education jammu and CEO Rajouri to immediately intervene and take strict action against schools enforcing such unreasonable penalties. They demand formulation of a uniform, student-friendly late fee policy that prevents private institutions from exploiting parents under the pretext of fee discipline.
“We are not against paying fees, but levying ₹300–₹500 as late fee for a delay of just a few days is nothing short of harassment,” a parent remarked. “Education should not become a business of exploitation.” and the Pvt. schools are collecting lakhs of rupees on the name of late fee.
The parents have appealed for:
- A thorough review of late fee policies of private schools across the region
- Strict regulation of penalties to prevent overcharging
- Immediate directions to schools to stop imposing exorbitant late fines
- Establishment of a monitoring mechanism to handle parent grievances
Parents hope that the authorities will take swift and decisive action to curb such practices and ensure that education remains fair, accessible, and free from exploitation.
