Rajouri, May 23 (TRT)— Compassion, a prominent animal welfare organization, has taken a firm stand against the rising menace of stray domesticated animals in the Aitti and Darhali areas of Rajouri. The organization has formally approached the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajouri and the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, urging them to initiate strict action against the owners of animals that are freely roaming in public spaces without municipal tags or supervision.
These animals, allegedly abandoned or carelessly left to wander, are not only exposed to cruelty and neglect but also pose a serious threat to public safety — particularly to children, who are most vulnerable to unexpected attacks or road mishaps caused by these strays.
Compassion representatives, Sajad Bhat and Sanjay Sharma, expressed grave concern over the issue, demanding immediate intervention. “This is not just an issue of animal rights, but public safety and civic responsibility. These animals are facing cruelty, and the general public is at risk. We urge the administration to take this matter seriously and book the irresponsible owners,” they stated in a joint appeal.
They further called on animal owners to act responsibly and ensure their animals are not allowed to wander unattended on public roads. “It’s time we stop turning a blind eye. If the owners cannot care for their animals, the law must step in,” Bhat added.
According to reliable sources, a formal First Information Report (FIR) is likely to be filed at Police Station Rajouri in the coming days against those found guilty of negligence and endangering both animal and human life.
The situation in Aitti and Darhali has reached a tipping point, with frequent complaints from residents about aggressive behavior, traffic disruption, and health hazards due to the unmonitored presence of these animals.
Compassion’s bold move is being hailed as a necessary step toward instilling accountability and compassion in the treatment of animals, while also protecting the welfare of the community.
