Rajouri : (Khan) March 01/2025 For few years, the education department in Jammu province, and Rajouri district in particular, has suffered immensely under the mismanagement and incompetence of certain officials who prioritized personal gains over academic progress. The damage done to the system has been immense, with key developmental initiatives and promotional avenues for teachers left in a state of complete stagnation.
Instead of focusing on strengthening the academic framework, these officers remained preoccupied with procurements, grants, and financial dealings, often indulging in favoritism and corruption. The degradation of the academic side was evident, as infrastructure development, teacher promotions, and policy implementations were either blocked or deliberately delayed to serve vested interests.
A glaring example of this failure was the last Annual Transfer Drive (ATD), which became a symbol of corruption, favoritism, and blatant misuse of power. The process, which was meant to ensure fair transfers and postings, turned into a farce where favoritism ruled over merit, and influential individuals were placed in key positions regardless of their eligibility. The misuse of authority reached its peak when officials, at the end of their service, executed last-minute transfers to benefit their close associates, leaving deserving teachers and other employees struggling in uncertainty.
The illegal retention of certain individuals in CEO and ZEO offices further exacerbated the situation, allowing them to manipulate policies and decisions to their advantage. These deeply rooted malpractices not only halted progress but also demoralized the teacher community.
As the dark era comes to an end, there is hope that the new officers taking charge will take immediate and strict action against the wrongdoings of their predecessors. It is imperative to conduct a thorough investigation into the corruption-ridden policies and questionable decisions made in recent years. The revival of the education sector in Jammu and Rajouri hinges on transparent governance, accountability, and a commitment to prioritizing academic excellence over personal interests.
The education sector deserves a fresh start, free from favoritism and corruption, where teachers are given their due recognition and students are provided with an environment conducive to learning and growth. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether the new administration can undo the damage and restore the dignity and efficiency of the education department.
