JAMMU 10 June : Around 900 kanals of poppy cultivation have been destroyed in Kulgam district by the coordinated efforts of the district’s concerned authorities.An official told 
that revenue, police and excise on the direction of district administration destroyed the poppy cultivation in many areas of the district, mostly in Kulgam tehsil.
To deter the ones from cultivation of poppy, the police have decided to lodge an FIR against the accused persons.
It is noteworthy that the district administration of Kulgam has also left no stone unturned in the matter of drugs and has destroyed the cultivation of poppy on hundreds of canals.
While talking to the District Development Commissioner, Kulgam Dr. Bilal Mohi du din, he said that many young boys and girls in Kulgam have been found involved in the drugs.
“More than 100 drug peddlers have been sent to jail which is a great success so far and also a de-addiction center in Kulgam, to treat drug addicts and provide counseling to the youth, was also opened,” said the DDC Kulgam.
